Budget and Box Office Hit Or Flop Verdict
Kanguva is made on a huge budget of ₹350 crores, which encompasses the production and promotional expenditure. To be reckoned as a "hit", a movie has to collect at least ₹350 crores. When it has collected only ₹100 crores as its worldwide collection, post the first week itself, then one can easily fathom the film to be a huge box office disaster.
Star Cast and Reception
The film had a super star cast with Suriya in the dual role of Kanguvan/Kanguva and Francis Theodore. The character Udhiran was played by Bobby Deol, Angela by Disha Patani, and Koduvan by Natarajan Subramaniam, among others. Yet dual roles were unable to click with the audience given the weak screenplay and its implementation in that movie.
Future Prospects
A steep slide in daily collections may ensure Kanguva does not linger too long in the theatres. Whether it manages to recover even a miniscule portion of its cost in production through second week collections or digital and TV rights, just time will tell.
Final Word
Suriya's Kanguva is that film warning tale, urging one to more critically observe on the question of content over grandeur. Despite all that money was spent and stars signed up, it has been rejected by critics and the audiences alike, proving to be the biggest flop of the year.
